DANIEL  CASARA

BIO / VIDEO / PHOTOS

Sergeant Daniel Casara’s an Illinois resident that served in the Crestwood Armory in Robbins, Illinois and then transferred to California's  Army National Guard Armory, shortly thereafter he was deployed to Iraq. Sergeant Casara’s 11 year military career came to a fast halt on September 23, 2005, when he and 5 others were hit by an EFP (stronger IED) while serving in the Army National Guards in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in South Baghdad Iraq. Two of his soldiers were fatally injured during that attack.

Sergeant Casara was airlifted to Germany and then 5 days later he was sent to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Gabrielle, his fiancée at the time flew with his parents to his bedside and married him in the hospital. Since that time, his wife has been caring for him and he is still in a recovering and rehabilitation state. The couple has 2 children. There has been no time for planning of a wedding reception or celebration. That's why he was given a surprise wedding reception and Honor-Ride. He is one of the thousands that have returned home injured with no parade or fanfare. Sergeant Casara is a strong willed soldier, with a good sense of humor and a positive spirit to keep him going despite his slow down. He loves people and finds no problem uplifting others.

Update: Sgt Casara is now out of the Hospital with several more reconstructive surgeries ahead of him.
